As I mentioned yesterday, I was off to visit with the local area Food Bank Representatives. I was asked to be the key note speaker and share the idea of the Home Food Preservation and Frugality Workshops being held at His Place Church. As you can imagine in these tough times Food Banks are low on stock and demand is higher. Each member of the team is doing more than their work or personal share of helping to provide for those in need, by giving of their time and resources, planting all they can and encouraging others to do the same. And should our area receive some sun and warmer temperatures...we may see a Harvest. My hope is that God would have mercy on us and give us a Harvest of Bounty that we can share with others. Our church is serving the community by offering garden plots, and someone is even offering hunting classes. By offering the Food Preservation & Frugality Workshops, I am hoping to prepare individuals with some skills needed to help provide for their families needs.
God reminds us to consider the ant...
Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest. Proverbs 6:6-8
Work now while we can, and be prepared for the future just as the Proverbs 31 woman does...let the fruit of her hands praise her in the gates. She will not be afraid of the snow for she has prepared for the future. (and that is a mouth full here in the Northwest Winters)
By being prepared we can also offer our hand to the needy and share the fruit of our hands with others. Gleaning, and thrifty shopping can lead to a much healthier home economy. Just imagine what affect that would have on a country and government if we all ran our budgets in such a way. Not to mention the Joy it would bring to God's heart!
So I will do my part and share my skills with others, and the Food Bank will do their part and help get the word out of the classes to those who may benefit, and together we can help equip and feed one person at a time to help others!
If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food,
and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled,"
without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that?
James 2:15-16
